Carolyn Cogswell has written for publication in newspapers in southeast Missouri, southeast and northeast Kansas and has published refereed professional journal articles in the field of early childhood development and education in Tennessee and Kentucky. She is currently working as a bilingual parenting specialist for Community Action Head Start in Topeka, Kansas, and is working on a spiritual memoir about father loss through divorce and dementia.

She published an article based on her 1992 master's thesis (family relations and child development at Oklahoma State University) in the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage called "Grandchildren's Perceptions of Grandparental Support in Divorced and Intact Families" (Vol. 23, Issue 3-4, pp. 127-150) and later published an article she wrote while working on her doctorate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville about girls' body image in Jamaica (A cross-cultural perspective on adolescent girls' body perception, in Perceptual and Motor Skills, vol. 78, pp. 744-746, 1994). While teaching child development at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, she published three articles in Kaleidoscope, the Journal of the Kentucky Association of Early Childhood Education, one about the food guide pyramid for young children and the other two about early childhood art education. Her Ph. D. dissertation was entitled "Teachers' Aesthetic Development and the Creative Arts Experience of Young Children." After leaving academia, Cogswell worked as a freelance reporter and columnist for the Southeast Missourian in Cape Girardeau and for a year as general assignment reporter for the Reynolds County Courier in Ellington, Mo. Desiring to be closer to her parents, she moved to Osage City, Kan. where she worked as staff writer for the Osage County Herald-Chronicle from November 2006 through August 2007, and then as education reporter for Sun Publications in Overland Park, Kan. from August 2007 to March 2008. During this time she won the Kansas Press Association second place award for best education story. After the elimination of her position as education reporter, she published feature stories for the Kansas City Star before moving to Topeka in July 2008. She hopes to offer her expertise in early childhood development and education through Suite 101 as well as to write about Christian 12-step recovery and other thought-provoking topics.
